Reduce noise

The acoustic seat box matting system has been designed to drastically reduce noise entering the cabin of your Land Rover Defender and replaces the factory fit vinyl seat box mat that is/was extremely prone to wear. Puma Defender models were the worse for this as Land Rover saved money by using a cheaper and less durable matting material than previous model Defenders.

Hard wearing surface

The Acoustic Seat Box Matting is made from cast dense polyurethane built to industrial standards for reducing noise levels often found in construction equipment. It provides a much harder wearing, durable surface that can withstand constant daily use and is easy to clean. The HD custom fit matting drastically reduces noise entering the cabin and panel reverberation.

Witness marks

The Acoustic Seat Box matting has witness marks on its under side corresponding to all the features of the seat box. It will need to be cut (seat mountings, handbrake etc) to your individual requirements using a HD craft knife.

Frequently Asked Questions

What about the trapped water?

Anything you put on the floor will trap water/condensation, even the new mats supplied by Land Rover. As the acoustic mat system is a hard wearing secondary surface you now have the ability to rustproof the inner surfaces of the floor. You will find that it is only a small amount of water and does dry out.

What does the foam do?

There is closed cell foam in the area of the footwells and floor panels. It is there to take some weight out of the mat and provide more comfort under foot. The foam has very little acoustic properties.

How heavy is the system?

Approximately 15 kilos of dense polyurethane which is the barrier to noise. Add footwell mats and you have the equivalent of having a spare wheel and tire spread over the floor area. This is why it is so effective.

Frequently Asked Questions conitunued

How effective is the mat system?

It would be impossible to quote the reduction in decibels as each application would be different. In testing we used a SWB 2A with a NA 2.5 Freight Rover diesel engine. The owner can now have a sensible conversation at full speed!

What if I want to get to the gearbox?

Removal is the reversal of fitting. It takes about 5-10 minutes to remove. You shouldn't ever need to remove the seat box mat or bulkhead mat, unless you wish to transfer them to a different vehicle.

What if my mats are distorted?

In most cases, over time it will return to its cast shape. Try to warm it to speed this up.
