Moto-Lita Steering Wheels
MUD is proud to offer Moto-Lita steering wheels for the Land Rover Defender, 90, 110, & 130 range of vehicles.
The Moto-Lita name is one synonymous with quality. During the companies 50 year history Mota-Lita handcrafted products have been selected for use as original equipment in some of the worlds finest motorcars including Aston Martin, AC, Shelby Mustang, Austin Healey, Caterham, Jaguar, Jensen, Lister, Lola, TVR, and Rolls Royce. MUD is proud to be able to offer you that same level of traditional British craftsmanship for your Defender.
Each Moto-Lita Steering Wheel comes finished with a hand stitched leather rim featuring a rubber underlay for an improved tactile feel.
Available in 14in or 15in diameter designs, Moto-Lita wheels come with a holed spokes in either a satin black or polished finish. One spoke features the engraved Moto-Lita signature.
The 380mm/15in size diameter Moto-Lita wheel provides a larger diameter option than the majority of other aftermarket wheels whose maximum diameter wheel size is 14in/ 350mm. Crucially the 15in Moto-Lita wheel looks and feels right at home in the Defender. If you're looking for that little bit of extra room under you knees, we recommend the 15in Moto-Lita wheel.
For those drivers who prefer a smaller wheel with a sportier feel wheel we can supply the Moto-Lita wheel in a 14in diameter. If you're looking for the maximum amount of extra legroom under your knees (or in front of your stomach!) we recommend the 14in Moto-Lita wheel.
Moto-Lita Steering Wheel Bosses
Moto-Lita steering wheels will not fit straight onto your existing steering column. In order to fit a Moto-Lita steering wheel or indeed any other aftermarket steering wheel
onto a Land Rover you will also need an adaptor or 'Boss' kit.

Which Boss do I need?
The subject of Land Rover steering wheel bosses has traditionally been a dark art. With this simple guide we aim to de-mystify the subject to ensure your Moto-Lita Boss selection is as simple and pain-free as possible.
Throughout their history Land Rover Defender, Ninety & One Ten models - no matter the engine type - have been fitted with just three different types of steering wheel.
Type A: The narrow rimmed four spoke steering wheel was used on the earliest vehicles up until and including the 200Tdi models.
Type B: The padded two spoke steering wheel commonly referred to as the 'air-bag wheel' (despite it not actually having an airbag fitted) was introduced on Td5 models in high-spec trim. This steering wheel continues to be used on the very latest
2.4 'Puma' engine Defenders. This wheel was also used on North American Spec (NAS)
D90 models and the 50th Anniversary V8 90s.
Type C: The two spoke steering wheel was introduced on the 300Tdi models. This steering wheel was also fitted to the Td5 models and continues to be used on the very latest generation Defender
in base trim specification.
Boss Selection
If you have steering wheel type A or B, and your vehicle is a Td5 or earlier
model select Boss MUD36 (2.4 Tdci 'PUMA' engine
owners see note below)
If you have steering wheel type C, select Boss MUD48
The Boss suffix numbers refer to the number of splines on the steering column shaft. If you're in any doubt as to which boss you require or you're maybe looking to upgrade your existing aftermarket steering wheel with a Mota-Lita wheel then the only 100% accurate way to tell which boss you need is to remove the steering wheel. With the steering wheel removed you will be able to accurately count the splines on the end of the column.
2.4Tdci 'PUMA' Engine?
We have recently had instances of the 36-spline bosses not fitting onto later
model Defenders when fitted with the air-bag-type B wheel. This problem is
random suggesting Land Rover has finally standardised on a 48-spline steering column for all
steering wheels. If your vehicle is a late model Defender
with an air-bag wheel then unfortunately the only way of knowing which boss you
require is to remove the wheel and count the splines on the column. To remove
the wheel, remove the centre pad with a sharp tug. This will reveal the nut
securing the wheel to the column.
Bosses come in a satin black or polished finish to match your Moto-Lita steering wheel selection and
are supplied with a Land Rover logo centre trim.
